I could not really recommend it because I had never seen or heard Davis & Sanford, but it was hard to ignore its specifications. Out of the box it is very similar to Sirui. Similar specifications in all areas, with some differences. The first and most obvious is the price. This is the best Tripod Under $200 and comes with a Head and a plate!
The cheapest tripod in the group is the only one in the group with convertible feet! For the work of the vault I use the rubber feet, outside the spikes. Threading the rubber foot up / down is MUCH easier than a set of feet that you swap and swap (this has already been done.) This forces the center column to point out about 1/2 "below the bottom of the" foot "spider" If all "For most it's probably not a big deal, but I put those feet in the pockets of this article and ~ 1/2" was just enough to make it work. Hook, remove the plastic bite and hang and replace the bottom plate. The central pillar is perfectly aligned with the spider!
The other advantage of the D & S is that the switches for the angle of the legs have a very nice shape just put your finger on the Feisol and the Sirui.
The negative in D & S would be that the tension with the Tripod legs is not strong enough. Take the tripod by one leg and it opens, leaving the rest of the tripod behind. They do, however, give you the tools to tighten the screws, and you can squeeze them enough to meet all the preferences (that is, I've put too much on them!).
The platform for the head is also larger in diameter than necessary. That is, when you turn your legs over and close, they touch the platform before touching the kneecap, which keeps the legs apart a little more than necessary. The last negative is hard to count because it is the patella.
Yes, it is true, the cheapest option in the group has a head and a plate "free"! The reason for this is that it is a heavy ball head with three conventional buttons, which simply means that it does not work properly with a tripod developed for turning. The buttons overlap one leg and the clip struggles with the third leg with the lock.
Now he always fits into the 26L backlight or inserts camera inserts with this head and as I said, it's included in the price ... But with all the other legs of this test, I would add my own little ball head, so it's fair too to do the same here. After you put your head back, your legs fold perfectly around your head.
Advantages and disadvantages:
+++ CHEAP MARKET !!!
+ seems to be a clone of Sirui, but at less than half the price.
+ includes a patella and a sticker for the price.
very beautiful "locks" on the legs to reverse them (the blue levers)
+/- blue accents to take away or leave ...
- The tension of the legs is released from the box + can be fixed with the included tools
+ the highest in the group if a column is used or not in the middle
+ Feet are convertible from the box, spikes and rubber!
? There's metal here (spikes and the leg spinning mechanism), which may not be rust-proof enough if you put it in salt water at that price (like me). The time will show ...
- not many miles on one, you have not seen any other reviews, how will it stay?
- The head of the ball is heavy and makes it difficult to fold up the legs and align the buttons (it's not the best head), but it's half the price cheaper than the others. So it's very difficult to name it negative ( i have my sunwayfoto FB-28 on mine) ...
- The design of the hook leaves the center column ~ 1/2 "under the spider, leaving it in the pocket ~ 1/2" longer, the hook had to be REMOVED and only the plate placed for the hook can fit in the larger pockets ( the hook on sirui fits).
Now on the bags
It is the best lightweight tripod For Backpacking ... As most of you probably know, it's almost impossible because we do not always do the same thing. let's go or what we shoot. Sometimes you are in town, sometimes on a mountain, sometimes with a bag of primes and lightning, sometimes tripods, zooms and filters. But my goal here is to get a bag that wants it.
